The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon glass bridge is the world's longest glass-bottomed bridge: more than 400 metres long and about 6 metres wide, suspended roughly 300 metres above the canyon floor. It is a half-day visit, and the best moment of the day is the first batch in the morning, when the light makes the reflections on the glass cleanest.

When to go

Morning is best for two reasons: the low sun creates good reflections and photo conditions, and the bridge is quiet before tour groups arrive. September and October are calmer than the summer peak. If you want the classic "standing on glass" shot with the canyon below, go early and move to the centre of the bridge before the crowd spreads out.

What to expect on the bridge

  • You wear shoe covers while walking on the glass; they keep the surface clean and safe.
  • Jumping or stomping is not allowed — it is for safety and comfort of everyone.
  • The viewpoints at both ends give the widest panorama of the bridge and canyon.
  • Below the bridge there is a zipline for those who want extra speed through the canyon.

How to combine it with the forest park

The Grand Canyon and the national forest park are different scenic areas, about 20 to 40 minutes apart by car depending on which park gate you use.
